Explosion!!

Well....not being able to sleep most nights(not sure why as i am wrecked!) i was sitting in bed reading Caleb by Francine River and all of a sudden....bang accompanied by a puff of smoke....my bedside light had exploded. I leaned over to have a closer look and realised that my hand was bleeding. There were miniscule shards of light bulb on my side of the bed. I kept finding more and more for about 10 minutes after. Then i was annoyed coz all i wanted to do was read and Norm doesn't like the main light on as he can't sleep, so he kindly swopped mine for his. Reading continued and no more explosions. I was rather bemused by the whole thing. Why should the bulb explode..it was only 2 days old? Suggestions on a postcard.
